The pen slots are not too wide nor too tight, but just right to keep pens comfortable without making it slip out. Protecting pens in place, and further secured by a flap that is long enough. Keeping the pen caps and other exposed pen parts that go beyond the slot opening sufficiently covered. At the same time, the flap acts as an added layer of cushion.
