Perhaps that’s because our own journey began in much the same way.
Long before we knew anything about fountain pens ourselves, someone close to us introduced us to their world.
A family member whose generosity had greatly influenced our own lives.
Through him, we first heard stories about fountain pens, admired his collection, and smiled as the children wandered in to borrow a pen or simply marveling at them.
Through those stories we came to know a community long before we ever met its people.
Wanting to thank him for his kindness, I made him a pen wrap.
It wasn’t meant to become a product.
It was simply a gift.
He took it to a pen meet.
His friends noticed.
At that time, most fabric pen wraps were sourced from overseas, so naturally the questions began.
“Where did you get that?”
Then another.
“Would she make one for me?”
Looking back now, I realize, Gav & Sav didn’t begin with a business plan.
It began with gratitude.
One handmade gift quietly found its way from one pair of hands to another.
That simple act of kindness opened the door to conversations, friendships, and eventually a community we never imagined becoming part of.
As time passed, we came to realize that it wasn’t only the fountain pens that felt familiar.
It was the way people spoke about them.
With care.
With patience.
With quiet excitement.
They appreciated thoughtful craftsmanship. They understood that the pleasure of writing, wasn’t only found on the page itself, but also on the little rituals that surrounded it.
They noticed the smallest details.
People who generously shared their knowledge, celebrated one another’s collections, admired handwriting as much as craftsmanship, and somehow made complete strangers feel like old friends after only a few conversations.
It was never only about the pens.
It was always about the people, and the stories they carried.
Perhaps that’s why, even today, Gav & Sav still feels at home in this community.
We recognized our own way of making in the people who loved them.
When we sit down at the worktable now, we rarely imagine something waiting to be sold.
Instead, we imagine it quietly accompanying someone else’s everyday life.
A notebook opened before sunrise.
